Central Coast Zoo Invites Local Artists to Submit Original Work by November 6

ATASCADERO, Calif. — October 31, 2026. Local artists have until Friday, November 6, to apply for a new pilot opportunity to have original animal-inspired artwork featured in the Central Coast Zoo gift shop.

The City of Atascadero’s October 23 announcement says the pilot will select one local artist whose work may be reproduced on greeting cards, posters, tote bags, magnets, apparel, drinkware and other merchandise.

What the city is looking for

Artwork must be original, professionally produced, suitable for families and inspired by animals living at the Central Coast Zoo. The artist may also have the option of placing an original work on display.

AI-generated artwork is not accepted under the published program requirements. Applicants must also meet applicable insurance, licensing and city contracting obligations if selected.

How to submit

The city says proposals may be delivered electronically, in person or by mail to Terrie Banish, Director of Community Services & Promotions, City of Atascadero, 6500 Palma Avenue, Atascadero, CA 93422. Interested artists should obtain and read the official request-for-qualifications packet and ensure their submission is received by the deadline.

For details call 805-470-3490 or email tbanish@atascadero.org. Selection is competitive; submission is not a contract or guarantee of sales.
