ATASCADERO, Calif. — October 31, 2026. The Atascadero Police Department says it received a $46,800 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety for road safety enforcement and education.
In its October 22 announcement, police described the program as supporting DUI patrols and checkpoints, distracted-driving operations, enforcement of speeding and dangerous moving violations, and safety education for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
What will the funding cover?
Along with patrol and education activities, the grant will support officer training and recertification for evaluating suspected impairment. The city also listed collaborative efforts with nearby agencies.
The funding program runs through September 2027 and is provided through the California Office of Traffic Safety using National Highway Traffic Safety Administration support.
What this does not establish
The award does not announce a particular checkpoint date or prove an immediate increase in crashes. Residents should not interpret the funding announcement as a warning about a specific street or neighborhood.
Safe driving choices remain important regardless of grant funding: obey speed limits, yield to pedestrians and avoid using a phone while driving. For current department announcements visit the City’s official site.
